Sa’Rai Brown-El
The “Warrior Princess” from Atlanta.

Champions come in all shapes and sizes, and usually they start out young.  The following story is about how Giza Olympius has attempted to capture the development of a champion from these early stages.  Many times a champion will stand out long before their star rises on the professional stage.

Meet Sa’Rai Brown-El a 13 year old Moorish-American amateur boxer from Atlanta. She was selected by the Giza team in October of 2018 to represent our brand in the unique chronicle of an upstart champion.

Nicknamed the “Warrior Princess” Sa’Rai is our youngest endorsed athlete who Giza sponsors thru contribution to her events as well features in our media and even a footwear project.

Coming from a family of boxers, Sa’Rai Brown-EL showed a natural ability to be a boxer. She began training at age 10 at Lugo Boxing with Coach Mike Lugo and has adapted and excelled quickly to become a top ranked female boxer in the country. In the most humble way, Sa’Rai’s motto is, “Boxing is in my blood!” Through hard work and dedication into putting in the 10,000 hours it takes to master her craft, her goalis ultimately be a 2024 Olympian!

At age 12, Sa’Rai began 2017 by traveling to Albuquerque, NM to compete in the Western Qualifier where she defeated Yaneli Prado (NM) and along with her boxing brothers, Nathan and Elijah Lugo took first place. This ranked her #1 in the nation at 75lbs. Next stop was Junior Olympics where she moved up in weight to 80lbs and in stunning fashion, beat Yvonne Flores (Louisiana) in the Championship bout and became the first Female in Georgia History to win the tournament and become a National Champion and subsequently, a #1 ranking in the nation at 80lbs. In October, traveling to Tennessee to compete in the Eastern Qualifier, Sa’Rai moved up to 85lbs but, would have went unopposed so Coach Mike Lugo not satisfied with Sa’Rai being a “paper champion” (winning a title without fighting) and complete faith in her ability decided to move her up to 90lbs. In her first bout in the tournament, Sa’Rai defeated the #1 girl in the country at 90 lbs, Yemila Tobias (Texas) and defeated Alaska Steele (OH) in the championship, closing out the Eastern Qualifier having moved up two weight classes and winning the entire bracket!

2018 was a very powerful year for Sa’Rai. She became the first female to win Silver Gloves National Title. She also won Eastern Qualifier for the second straight year and became back to back Junior Olympics National Champion! Currently, Sa’Rai is a 4 time National Champion which is not an easy feat. She is the 2018 Georgia female Boxer of the year, an award she has won 3 years consecutively. She closed out 2018 at #1 in the country at 95lbs and ranked in the top 5 in 3 different weight classes!

Sa’Rai is looking to dominate 2019 and become a member of the 2019 USA Boxing National team and compete internationally!

Stay tuned for more stories about Sa’Rai’s ascent from amateur to Pro and beyond, Giza will be there with her.
