THE REAL DEAL
Every once in a while the planets align and the universe synchronizes amazing displays of brilliance. For example: twin comets, or lightening striking twice (wink) in the same place, at the same time. In our case, right while we are systematically rolling out our enigmatic footwear collection, another star is rising …in the same place, at the same time. Giza Olympius is proud to announce the formal endorsement of a legendary 7 division boxing world champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano.
Giza Olympius and Amanda Serrano met in January a few days before her epic fight vs Eva Voraberger. Amanda defeated her opponent in 35 seconds to clench the WBO super flyweight title, her 7th world title. This feat has been accomplished by only two other fighters in boxing ever, cementing her place in history.
The timing of these events, and the way that they came together, inspired Giza to understand the symbolism behind it. “Currently Giza is focused on the fitness and training categories” says Cyrus-L Giza Olympius’s Footwear Director, “And what sport represents hard core workout and training more than boxing? Also there’s something powerful about a woman fighter, a champion, and a Brooklynite. She’s the perfect icon for us.” Our plan is to make Amanda a cornerstone of our brand. We’re currently developing a capsule collection for her as well as her own signature shoe.
Puerto Rican native Amanda Serrano is a professional boxer and mixed martial artist, and has a boxing record of 37 wins and 1 loss. She is not only the only boxer to win recognized world titles in seven different weight classes, she is also the only woman, and Puerto Rican fighter to win titles in 5, 6 and 7 different weight divisions. Amanda has been awarded the female boxer of the year award in 2016 and 2018 by the WBO and the same entity awarded her the only “Super World Championship” ever awarded to a woman. As of January 2019 Amanda has been ranked as the world’s best super bantamweight, and pound for pound #1 by BoxRec.
Amanda got into the sport because she was a fan and supporter of her sister Cindy “Checkmate” Serrano who is a retired pro with her own amazing legacy, style and record. She was 16 – 0 in her first 16 professional fights and lost in a decision to Katie Taylor in 2018. You can follow the Serrano Sisters on their instagram: SerranoSisters or through ours GizaOlympius as we unfold this story.
Amanda still has her biggest fights ahead of her at this point, including a MMA fight later this month and also an upcoming bout vs the unified IBF and WBA lightweight Champion Katie Taylor to avenge her Sister. Giza will be there along side of her team including here manager Jordan Moldanaldo and her sister Cindy Serrano.
